There is plenty to do and see on this small island nation, including many tourist-targeted attractions. We thought it best to start our first day with a Duck boat tour to try and hit up as many sights as possible in one swoop. I ended up with the perfect seat, where the tour-guide had direct eye contact with me the entire time, and led to me being called on to answer various trivia questions. Thanks. I expected to hear a bit more history about Singapore on the Duck tour, but it was mostly a showcase of attractions.
Our hostel had the perfect location, right in Chinatown. This is the super fun for the kids because there are all kinds of trinkets for them ponder over, and also great food choices.
My favorite part of the trip was Gardens by the Bay. Here houses a Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, Supertree Grove, and many other sections in a huge city garden. It reminded me a bit of Forest Park in St. Louis, but Singapore style. The Cloud Forest is in a dome with a man-made replica of a higher elevation mountain, complete with cool weather, beautiful plants, waterfalls, and routine cloud-misting throughout the day. The Supertrees are magnificent towers that collect rainwater, and some collect solar power. They also have a living skin, covered in various plants. At night the trees light up, and there is a light/music show. I love that this tourist attraction also serves a beneficial function for the park.
